startup programs deleted
All the programs I had in my startup folder were removed. I believed this was after a windows update. I use RegCure to clean registry files and manage my startup programs. When I make changes there, they do not take. All startup files show as disabled. I am using Windows Vista Home version. any suggestions? Should I try a restore point prior to the windows update?

I think you have hosed the registry, something most reg cleaners will do and you can try System Restore first but I think you need to copy out any meaningful files and data and reformat partition and do a clean install of Vista. We never recommend reg cleaners yet everyday here one system after another is hosed by these things and they are far more dangerous than virus and spyware actually.

I have tried to do a system restore, but it failed with an error. I have used the Regcure for many years without problem, but I will take your advice.

You probably just had your first reg cure problem and I am sure a bunch will be along here to agree with what I said...but wise choice as we see mangled regostries all day long from reg cleaners on systems where the damage is not repairable.
