So what will happen is you fire up the computer..get connection made, windows updates takes off....and behold there is internet explorer.
A browser is a GUI to permit easy "mouse" or "keyboard" click. It is not an access point to the Internet as such. As any old hands will confirm, it is actually quite easy to gain access without a browser, and you can then download whatever browser you wish. But it is not an intuitive procedure and will be unknown to the majority.

Then it was something else, because I definitely wasn't that old.

The only games I played in '82 were with chicks 'n' cars, prayin' for no third world war.

In 1976... that was before the APPLE II.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_II_series

Commodore PET computers were on the market around then. Apple used Commodore CPUs (CMOS 6502).
The VIC-20 came out in 1980 and it LOOKS like the newer C=64.

LOL....don't suppose you two spent many hours typing in lines of basic code which you got out of books just so you can (if your lucky) play a "shoot the pixel" type game - those were the days - and everyone got too darn lazy with the advent of cartridge game consoles. But, nevermind it was good fun (when it worked)

As a kid... I spent many hours typing in code from MAGAZINES... full games too... not state of the art, you can only get so much from 10~15 pages. But yeah, thats all it took to make games similar to pacman.

Yep, thats the one Compiler. Did you ever have the case where you had spent hours typing in code only to find that the game didn't run "AGGHHHH" only a few of my "from scratch" games actually got to be recorded onto tape - but i still stand by my previous (some time ago) statement of "being back Jet set willy" lol

Just had to go over the code... line by line. BUT there was a check-program that would flag errors that made magazine coding reliable.

And yes... I have saved my early programs to AUDIO-TAPES... of course, (A) I have no idea where they are (B) how to use them (C) Care anymore

I used a 19" TV as a monitor... ugh.
