I keep getting the blue screen when I try to load my computer through normal settings. It crashes with a blue screen at the "Windows Vista" loading screen with the bar, and then restarts, and then repeats. This was after I used System Mechanic to "optimize" my system by compressing the registry, optimising memory useage and defragmenting the drive (although I cancelled defragmentation mid-way). It keeps crashing over and over, or loads the desktop with just a black screen. When I try to use the Task Manager, it tells me that the application failed to initialize.
The error message that I'm getting on the blue screen is:
"disk.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"
It then does a "memory dump" before restarting, and doing the same thing over and over.
I have Hiren's Boot CD 9.8, but I don't know which programs to use to get it back. I tried a partitioning tool, because I didn't know what it was and thought it could help [I know, very stupid...], and it fixed 3 "partition errors" but all that seemed to do is hide my D:/ drive when I load up my computer in Safe Mode. Although, when I start Windows Mini XP via the boot CD, the C:/ and D:/ drives are still there, with all data intact.
I'd like to try some methods rather than factory resetting my computer immedietly.
Can anyone help? Or suggest programs to use on Hiren's Boot CD? Or even any alternate suggestions?
Thank you in advance.
NOTE: Just to make this clear, I cannot use System Restore because it was turned off prior to a previous virus attack. Also, starting the computer using the "Last Known Good Configuration" doesn't seem to help. Right now, I can only load it in Safe Mode.
EDIT: By the way, I've already uninstalled System Mechanic.

the best ones don't do much but don't do any harm either.
U have to be an expert to use them and I still can get into deep dodo.
I suggest u uninstall one driver at a time in safe mode.
Start with the video driver. When it boots up properly start reinstalling the drivers.
It could also be a program that loads on boot but not a driver.
u can set everything to not load using RUN >> MSCONFIG
then enable one at a time till u find it, then uninstall and reinstall that one.
good luck | | Junior Member with 3 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2007 Experience: Intermediate | | Quote:

How do I uninstall a driver?
Also, in MSConfig, I see Services and Startup. Are those what I'm supposed to uncheck one-by-one?

getting there depends on the OS.
XP is a rt clk on My Computer / Propertites / Hardware / DM
I never used vista so I don't know but W7 is under System in the control panel. Vista is probably the same.
Once u get to DM double click a device - u will probably need to go to the second level to get to a device, IE Network Adapters / Bluetooth Device
Once open select Driver tab, Uninstall is on the bottom. Reboot after each uninstall.
YES, in MSCONFIG u can select the DIAGNOSTIC STARTUP on the General page. That will stop all but necessary things. If that works, then u can go back to Selective Startup and add or kill one at a time. I usually kill half. then half of that (or half of the other half) to zero in on it quicker.
Stopping some thing may produce weird results and some things u may know are working so u can skip those. U have to judge the outcome by what u have stopped.
If it doesn't improve anything go to the drivers.
good luck

I'm a bit iffy on uninstalling the drivers, because I'm not sure how I'll get them back if I do. Will it just remove the device from the Device Manager if I uninstall the driver? | | Member with 54 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2009 Experience: Advanced | | If u don't have the latest driver, then the first thing u might want to do is a search and download for the latest drivers for your OS. Sometimes this is not an easy process. Try the MFG site first. The google mfg name+product+"drivers".
then update the drivers. that may solve everything. I just ***-u-me-d u had the latest. When u uninstall them u need to do a reinstall to get them back.
Obviously if u don't have them u need to get them. U don't need to uninstall to update.
HOWEVER, if the computer is useless the uninstalling them will tell u which one u really need. Unfortunately, u may need another computer to get them (u probably will anyway since this one isn't working) since u may get to stopping ur LAN connection to the internet.
I'm sorry, but I am losing what the original issue was. If I lost it just tell me to reread this thread.
