Browsing these forums I found the powercfg -devicequery wake_armed command which says the mouse and keyboard are the only things that can wake my computer. I also found in that forum that I could turn off my mouses ability to wake my computer in the device manager (properties/power management/checkbox). However this does not stop the mouse from waking the displays when the computer is awake, it only stops the mouse from waking the computer.
Any help will be appreciated as I would like to enjoy the phenomenon of waking my monitors with the keyboard, besides the power buttons. | | Distinguished Member with 5,473 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced | | Hello & welcome to Tech Guy Forum.
If the mouse is USB, unplug the mouse.
Please explain what you mean by:
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed command

"powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" command was a console command mentioned in another thread on this site, you run the command prompt as admin, and put that command in and it will tell you all the things that have the ability to wake the computer from sleep, ie network adapters, keyboard, mouse.
Though I have a feeling that command just shows things that will wake the computer from sleep and not the things hat will wake the displays when the computer is awake.
On a better note I did leave my mouse unplugged last night and in the morning my displays were still asleep! So it is my mouse waking them up. Now I just need to figure out how to stop it from waking the displays while it is still plugged in.
Edit: and thanks for the welcome!!!!

Is this a ball mouse, or an optical mouse or other? | | Junior Member with 8 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2009 Experience: Intermediate | | It is a laser mouse, logitech G5. I don't have any other mice handy | | Distinguished Member with 5,473 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced | | Thanks.
Have you tried adjusting these?
# Adjustable weight cartridge: Use up to 36 grams of weight to customize your mouse with a heft and balance that’s just right for your game.
# Adjustable sensitivity: Shift from pixel-precise targeting to lightning-fast maneuvers, without pausing the action. The G5 gives you instant access to three sensitivity levels—400, 800, and 2000 dpi—before driver installation. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mi...s/359&cl=US,EN

Just go into Power Mgmt. in Properties and uncheck "allow to wake computer". After much grief, this worked for me. Only the KB wakes this PC. | | Junior Member with 4 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2007 Experience: Einstein |

#11 | Thanks guys, but as I mentioned above, that stops the mouse from waking the computer from sleep, it does not stop the mouse from waking the monitors from sleep while the computer is awake.
My computer is usually awake and chipping away at some transcoding job or other, i just put my monitors to sleep. | | Distinguished Member with 5,473 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced |

Do you mean you set your computer, in power options, to "turn monitor off"?
Please provide: computer brand, model, model #,
OR
motherboard brand, model, model #
BIOS version
programs / all programs > accessories > system tools > system information
If you have a desktop computer, consider the following, which I have done, to preserve my monitor switch. Connect your monitor to a power strip with an on / off button. With this method, I can leave my computers on [ I use a KVM switch for 2 computers ], but turn off the monitors.

#13 | Hello, thanks again for all the responses! I use a nifty little c++ program that my brother wrote to put my monitors to sleep. I run it with a macro from the f12 button on my keyboard. System specs are listed in my profile, i currently have windows 7 RC installed. I am using the latest bios 2104 I believe.
My mouse is the problem, since my first post here I have started plugging my mouse into my keyboard for easy access. I unplug it when I leave my computer and the displays stay asleep.
The power switch is a good idea, however my second monitor is a hdtv that others use when I'm not. It will work for my main monitor though, I may do just that.
If you would like a different method of sleeping your displays then turning the power off I'll be happy to supply the program I use. It works great, if only my mouse would cooperate.

I have nothing more to offer.
You might want to ask your brother, since he wrote the program.

#15 | My brother is no help, thats why I am here. I am resigned to unplugging my mouse for eternity. (The monitors used to wake up just the same when they fell asleep naturally)
