Question Deleteing a non-existent file
Hi all,
There's a file showing up in a folder of mine which I previously deleted.
When I try to delete (or anything else) the file in explorer, it says "Item could not be found"; confirming that the file itself has been deleted but for some reason it's icon is still showing up.

I've tried to fix this in the following ways:
  • Creating a file with exactly the same name then deleting that
  • Using the terminal to delete via "DEL"
None of these work and I'm kinda stuck for ideas.

It's not exactly important, but it really bugs me to see this phantom file every time I open up my Downloads folder.

Vista Home Premium by the way

Anyone have an idea? I'd be realy grateful.

Thanks for the suggestion, the CHKDSK seemed perfect, but unfortunately it didn't work; neither did reloading the icon cache.
Thanks anyway, I guess I'll just have to cope

Have you tried refreshing the folder view? (Right-click, Refresh) Sometimes this does the trick. Or restarting the computer? Have you tried renaming or moving the file?

If still no luck, try Unlocker.
