Vista Blue screen when deleting files
Hello!

I am having problem with Vista home premium SP1 when I try to delete files. As soon as I hit the delete button, I see the Vista blue screen and the computer restarts. I only have this problem when I delete a folder which has files in it or when I delete few files in one go. If I just delete one file at a time, then I have no problems.

I read another thread(closed now) on this forum with a similar problem...so I am attaching the dump files that I got when I saw the log in the Vista's "Problem and Reporting" center.

Please, any help would be very much appreciated, I googled about this but havent had any luck so far

Thank you!

Results of the minidump are:

"Probably caused by : HFXP2.SYS"

this is a windows driver file, I would run the System File Checker on your PC

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow
be sure there is a space between c and /
It will take some time to run let it finish, you will not get any log or notification when done other than the window closing.

To view the log:

The SFC log is contained inside the cbs.log file located at:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Since the cbs.log may be huge (it's used by other programs besides the SFC),
you might want to do this:

To create relevant SFC-only information gleaned from the cbs.log, and put it
in a small file called sfcdetails.txt, right-click Command Prompt (using the
shortcut in Start Menu\Programs\Accessories) and choose Run as
Administrator. By default, the prompt starts in C:\Users\(Your Name).
Type:

cd desktop

Press Enter on your keyboard. Then Copy and Paste this at the prompt:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

Press Enter. Sfcdetails.txt should then appear on your Desktop. Now you can view what SFC actually did.

If this problem just manifested itself, usually the quick and painless fix is a system restore.

Many thanks for the super quick reply!

I ran SFC and got the log in a text file. Also in the command prompt window it said that there are some corrupt files which windows couldn't repair. So attaching a screen shot of that too.

I guess I will need to restore the files from the Vista CD or something?
Thanks!

tcpmon.ini is the file it could not replace, it is corrupt and the backup file is also.

Looks like it is a legacy file for older plug and play printers, probably not important or the cause of your problems.

Do you have Hide Folders XP by FSPro Labs installed? if so that is the problem. HFXP2.SYS is part of that software. Either remove that software or udate it to the newest version. ( If you remmove it I suggest unhiding your folders before you do.)

If that software is not installed I suspect malware is masquerading as that file name.

Thanks!
Hi again!
Thanks a lot, problem is fixed!

I had uninstalled Hide folders earlier but it didn't delete HFXP2.SYS so I manually deleted it and it worked.

Thanks again for solving the issue so fast )

Thats a common problem with uninstallers, they leave sys drivers on the PC and in startup, poor coding by the vendor.

You are welcome.
