Exclamation Windows Vista Suddenly Fails
So I turned on my PC thats runs Windows Vista Home Premium and I login. The processes that usually come up in the notification area (DAEMON Tools, WinSplit ect.) do not appear, just the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon. I try to open Adobe Fireworks CS3, it says that the shortcut is missing, so I look for the .exe manually, its not there, I run a search, its not there (this also happens with other Adobe CS3 programs). I now try and use Microsoft Office 2007, I click on the program shortcuts and the Windows Installer comes up. I cannot uninstall CS3 or MS Office, so I deleted the program files. This didnt change anything. The computer also restarts automatically no matter what I touch. So I go into safe mode and tell the computer not to restart when errors are found via the system settings. Instead of a restart, it shows a blue error screen. I cannot system restore or defrag or recover my files.

I have done the following to attempt to fix the problem:
SFC/SCANNOW
CHKDSK
DEFRAG (JUST WONT WORK)
RECUVA (WONT SCAN DRIVES)
CCLEANER (DOESNT HELP)

***PLEASE HELP! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAS HAPPENED!***

Thanks in advance, Bill.

P.S. IS IT SAFE TO JUST FORMAT VISTA AND INSTALL XP?
P.P.S THIS PC IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET

If the hardware is ok then a system restore should also restore function (barring viral infection). Otherwise you may have to try reinstalling the OS and if that fails then the tray and programs gone missing, in addition to a failed install may indicate the hard drive is kaput.
