Solved: Can't transfer messages from oe6 to win mail
I have an hp pavillion laptop running vista with win mail & a desktop running xp prof with oe6. I have been trying to copy my old email msgs from oe6 to win mail just to have them on both pcs. So far unsuccessfully. I exported the dbx files from oe6 to an external usb hard drive; then connected the hd to the laptop & tried to import from win mail by browsing to the
location of the copied files. Each time i do file/import/messages from win mail & navigate to the folder that has the dbx files from from oe6 it says that there are no mail files there. I am following microsofts directions exactely. I wonder if my winmail file
extensions are wrong. In the winmail folder they are:

edb.chk which lists the type as "recovered file fragments." Which doesn't sound right
edb.log
edb0000D.log
edbtmp.log
WindowsMail.pat
tmp.edb
windowsMail.MsMessageStore
WindowsMail.pat
BTW I also tried the transfer wizard
and some jrs & an xml file.
any help appreciated
Wondering why microsoft made this so complicated.

Hi Mumbodog:

Thanks for replying. I thought i had sent one but it got lost when we relocated from NY to UT in oct.
I tried the link but it involved things i had tried before. In truth, the priority for this job has receded to the background. When i upgrade from Vista (ugh) to win7 i 'll readdress it.

Thanks again

No problem, let us know when you move to W7, we have a forum board for that OS now.

Some tips about upgrading to W7.

Run the W7 advisor tool before upgrading

How to do a clean install using the upgrade media.
