Does this laptop successfully connect by ethernet?

Disable encryption and MAC Address filtering on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect. If unsuccessful please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have tried my hardest to change my wireless network settings so that i can make it secure. This is because the other 2 laptops in my house will not connect (although mine still does). I've done alot of work and could do with a simple answer

You could start with a simple yes or no answer to "Does this laptop successfully connect by ethernet?".

I thought it was your laptop that would not connect by wireless? So now you're saying that one laptop connects by wireless but two do not? And the above ipconfig /all is for one of those which do not, right?

Yes that information was about one of the laptops which does not successfully connect

And the laptops connect when the cable is plugged in (of course) but apart from that they do not connect wirelessly unless on a secure wireless

That's the opposite of what we generally see! Wireless interference can impact secured and unsecured networks differently, so I suppose that is one possibility. Try different channels; e.g., 1, 6 and 11.
