Hello all!
My first time posting here -- I greatly appreciate anyone who can help me out. I'll try to be concise:
The Problem:
-- When playing music through Windows Media Player, the PC hard shuts off anywhere from 30 seconds to an hour during MP3/WMA playback. In order to turn the PC back on, I have to unplug it, discharge the power, and then it'll boot up as normal.
Note: I can play MP3s through Winamp all night long without any issue. Also games such as Command and Conquer and
World of Warcraft all play fine for hours on end.
-- Similarly, the same problem usually occurs when trying to refresh the performance/index score for the PC (currently rated a 5.4). The same unplug, discharge, re-boot process has to take place to turn back on.
Attempted Remedies:
-- I have formatted, reinstalled Vista and I have the same issue. I also have an external SATA drive that I can boot to Windows XP and it still exhibits the same issue with WMP playback.
-- I thought it may be tied to the power supply, I replaced a 600W Rosewill with a 750W Corsair on sale. Same problems exhibited.
-- My previous video card (8800GTS) died within the past week (GPU went bad I believe) and has been replaced with a GTS 250. The same problem has persisted throughout the lifespan of both cards so far.
Systems Specifications:
Intel Core2Duo E6600 @ 2.4 Ghz (Coolmaster Hyper N520 CPU cooler)
4 GB total RAM
Foxcon C55A01 Motherboard (nVidia 680i chipset)
nVidia GTS250 PCI-E x16 video card
Corsair 750W PSU (installed -- although would rather return it and go back to Rosewill 600W if this isn't a PSU issue)
Again, any help is hugely appreciated. This problem has actually been ongoing for about two years... but with a recent video card going bad, I'd like to ensure this PC is going to cost me anymore in the near future
Thanks,
Ruxpin
