Question Problems after removing HP Total Care Advisor on Vista
When I first got my HP Pavilion dv7-1450us, I turned the preference to make the TCA dock onto the system tray after start up. Once I made this change, it never worked again, I would always get system errors when trying to open the TCA, whether it be by double-clicking the system tray icon or going to the start menu. I was unable to even open the software to change the preferences to not open on start-up. So today, I decided to uninstall the software, since I've had the computer for 3 months and have not once used it. After I uninstalled it, I started having problems with the fan not ever going off oor quieting down. I can't imagine that the two are related, but I've never had fan issues before. Any thoughts out there? I'm not computer dumb, but this has stumped me.

Thanks,
Newbie

Try reinstalling it, reboot then try the uninstall again. There should be an "application recovery" in the All Programs list, might be buried in a HP folder (PC Help n Tools possibly)

Mumbo-
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it to no avail. In fact the fan issue seems to be enhanced now, slowing down the computer. Arggg

I would do a system restore, pick a date before you made the change "turned the preference to make the TCA dock onto the system tray "

HP Total Care Advisor is not needed and is problematic and is one of the first things that I uninstall after buying a new HP/Compaq computer.

Here is the support site for your laptop. You should save this site in your browser favorites list for reference to when needed.

dv7 is, IIRC, a notebook so the fan issue probably indicates overheating and it's probably the overheating that's slowing down the notebook (many mobile CPU's have an automatic feature that slows them down when they start overheating-again, IIRC). The fact that it started occurring when you removed the junk makes me wonder if the main purpose of HP's TCA wasn't, in fact, to slow down the processor in the first place.
