also

not your pc but
http://bd.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID...specifications
fn + f2 is a bluetooth switch
try that and see if that tick box changes - you need to click on bluetooth settings each time to see the change

Go to Etaf's url and download the manual, you will see a wireless and bluetooth switch in the center of the front of the laptop which pushed in turns on the wireless light and the function. It is right to the left of the flash memory slot which is in the center of the front of the laptop. It's hard to tell but it might be the wireless symbol itself that is the switch.

i thought maybe the FN + F2 may toggle - turn on wireless / turn on bluetooth etc each time its toggled

However, I have seen this link
ftp://www1.dcshop.ro/produse/pdf/16478.pdf
search for bluetooth
blue tooth is not on this model
now this says its optional
http://www.micro-square.nl/web/PDF_docu.nsf/f2015d37294344b6c125733e002823a5/F5F2565170ECE62CC12575FC00444F4B/$FILE/F5GL.pdf

confused as much as you are - any luck with Rich-M post

A Bluetooth symbol on the case is not an indication of the hardware it contains. If a Bluetooth module is optional, some manufacturers use the same case, with the same symbols, for computers that have an adapter and those that don't.

ill try and answer all your questions and give you as much information as possible.
when I tried to install the F5GI driver it come up with an error message saying the device could not be found, and then with the other one (i cant remember the name sorry), it went through with the installation and finished.
it doesnt say anything about bluetooth in the start menu, all programs.
you said you went to control panel then bluetooth then bluetooth settings and checked some tick boxes or something or rather, but when i click bluetooth settings absoloutely nothing comes up.
there is a switch on the left hand side of my computer, that is for WLAN, and doesnt affect the bluetooth status, the fn + f2 function does the same thing.
I am starting to think that this laptop didnt come with bluetooth, but then why would bluetooth be in the control panel and it says that it is disabled in the system information?
sorry i cant help more

Vista always has a Bluetooth icon in Control Panel, my office desktop has one even though it's never had a Bluetooth adaptor.

The spec for your laptop says Bluetooth is optional: http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_I...specifications so you simply may not have the hardware.

I don't know about Asus, but on both my HP and Dell laptops there is exactly one switch that controls both the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios. As Rich said, turn it on.

On my HP (using Windows 7 but pretty sure Vista is the same) my Bluetooth shows in Device Manager under Network Adapters if and only if the switch is on.

If you have Bluetooth I think that you should be able to find it in the BIOS (SETUP).

on my sony I can turn the wireless and bluetooth on/off seperately - via a software facility
and as per a previous post
Bluetooth only appears in device manager when it enabled via that software switch.

Since nothing shows up in Device Manager, and there are no unknown devices, I doubt any type of utility that identifies hardware would work. Your computer simply doesn't detect any type of Bluetooth device.

Did you buy this second hand? Or lose the original receipt? That should show exactly what hardware was included.
