Unhappy Why won't new programmes install?
Wondered if anyone out there can help?

I have vista home premium (32 bit)

The problem is this:
Everytime I download a new programe or software, and install it, it initially runs (if a re-boot is not required), but as soon as I re-boot the computer, the shortcut link from the desktop is broken, and also the link from the programe itself is broken, so the application cannot be accesed any longer.

Older applications that have been previously installed are perfectly ok, and they still update, it only appears to affect new installations.

So what has happened?

Background:

A few weeks ago I tried to install the "Nokia PC Suite", it failed to install.

It is only installations I have tried to install after that time I have had the problem with. So I don't know if that was the ininitial cause of the problem or not.

Solutions tried so far:

Yes, I have tried "System Restore", it still doesn't correct the problem

Yes, I have tried anti-virus, spyware check etc, there is no problem.

Yes, I have tried to download an application to find corrupt drivers etc, but it won't install. Basically I cannot download any application to check or auto error repair UNLESS it does not require a re-boot.

I would be very grateful to anyone who can offer help with a possible diagnosis and repair solution.

Many thanks

Thy this .exe file association fix: exefix

Save it to your desktop. After extracting the reg file, double-click on it to merge it to your registry.

Hi LinuxHacker

It's programmes that I have installed after the failed installation of the Nokia PC suite. Programmes I had on my PC prior to that failed installation are working fine, it only effects any new programmes I try to install, and Ive tried a few and the result is the same. After re-boot, access to the application is broken strangely.

Any helpful suggestions?

Here's what I would try.

Boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 while booting.

Delete the Nokia install folder from Program Files.

Goto start < run < msconfig < startup tab and make sure nothing that says "Nokia" is checked.

Goto start < run < regedit < hit F3 < search for nokia and delete any registry setting that says nokia in it.

Reboot and try again.

Still won't work
Hi LinuxHacker

Many thanks, but no Nokia files are there. There is no Nokia programme file to uninstall from the list of programmes, because the programme failed to install originally. There are no Nokia files to delete in the registry.

I'm only saying that it "might" be something to do with this failed Nokia installation, because it was the last time I tried to download a programme that failed, before I noticed problems with installation of other new programmes.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Many thanks
