Gateway vista full factory recover
I have a Gateway MT6223b and I have my 2 recovery disks which do not do a system restore Ive tried they ask if I want to restart the computer to restore it but nothing happens. Ive tried pressing f8 and the "Repair your computer" option does not exsist on the list even though its in the guide that came with the laptop. I cant do a system restore either because for some reason my laptop wont make them. I think Ive looked at every forum and site on the net and no one has the answer I hope someone can help.
Thank you

go into the bios and make sure that your bios is set to boot on the CDrom first.then the hard drive.if not, change it to that then F10 to save and it should work.
also when your computer starts make sure you "press any key to boot from CD".

Firstly thank you very much for replying. Can I ask what you mean by "press any key to boot from CD" ? Because if I actually press any key at start up nothing happens and I dont have an option on the screen that says "press any key to boot from CD" that I can enter. As you can tell Im not great with computers sorry.

I have changed in the Bios the "boot from Cd rom" then next listed is "boot from hard drive" I saved it using f10 and Ive checked again that its changed.

However I still dont have the "repair your computer" option listed when I press f8 repeatedly at startup my first option is "safe mode" how do I get this option back? This means the help on the gateway website is of little help.

Thank you again for your kind help.

Also just another quick thing the disks I have I made myself when I first got my Gateway laptop they said I had to make them? So Im guessing they recovery disks though I dont actually have a "windows" disk with vista on.
I did try the factory restore while actually in windows by inserting the recovery disk and the disk asked me to restart the computer however nothing happened. Hope this information helps.
Thank you

The f8 option of repair my computer is part of the windows recovery envirement...your mbr has been damaged and re written with a generic mbr.

You will get this back with a reinstall of windows,,but more than likely your factory image wont be on the list,,,unless you run the factory recovery without the use of a disk

On some machines the recovery process can be started within windows itself..I am not sure about the gateway..you may have to hunt around for it....if its not there..then you will need a vista dvd to boot from and enter the command prompt, then put in the proper command to get it started.
There is also a recovery environment disk available for download..which has the needed files to have the same functions as repair my computer.

First however hunt around within windows and see if you have an application within to start the process.... if you dont...then someone will have to give you the command from with command prompt while booted into the disk as I dont know what it is for a gateway

When you are attempting to boot to cd or dvd..try as follows
be sure boot from cd is selected first as boot device....or tap on your one time boot option after powering.
So insert the disk...shut down.
Hit power button....if boot from cd is selected as first device in bios..then the machine will start reading the cd..this make take a minute..you will then have a message to press any key to boot from cd...just hit the spacebar and wait..it may take a minute to take off..if successful just follow the prompts.

If you are having no luck the boot back into windows...go to computer...put the cd in click on the cd drive ..open{not the drive itself}but open to look at the files...you should see a few folders present...this will help to verify that the disks have readable data on them

The disk will not work on start up the bios is correct for cdrom first and yes the disks have readable data. Also they have a recovery option when you open it up in windows which requires a restart but still the disks are not read. Little bit of a confusing one this isnt? lol.

Also something else Ive discovered windows updates wont install any updates so thats why I cant access the recovery in maintance coz my system is not upto date. I dont have SP2 or SP1. So I went to download windows NT but I cant get Windows NT backup to run because I cant turn on removable storage manager which is obviously in the service pack.
