Unhappy Help! Error Code -5006: 0x800ffff
I'm having trouble installing FEAR into my laptop. Every time i try to install it, at the beginning i get Error Code 5006: 0X8000ffff. I;ve surfed around the net trying to find a solution, but those solutions dont seem to work. I,ve tried running the installer as administrator, deleting C/ProgramFiles/CommonFiles/InstallShield/Professional, and I've tried renaming InstallShield to InstallShieldOLD. Those solutions seem to work for others, but it doesnt fix my problem. please help

I have a AMD Athlon Dual Core 1.9GHZ
2 GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack2
GeForce 8200M

This is an "unknown" catastrophic failure -- so there is not much specific help for it. I'm going to assume it is JUST this program you are having a problem with.

Try installing the latest version of Windows Installer if you do not have that >>

Make sure UAC is turned off during the install of your problematic program.

If the problem continues, try using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove any remnants of the failed install, and try again.

Use it only on programs that you have already uninstalled or have had failed installs on.

I just solved this -5006: 0x800ffff problem on my computer in a strange way. I had an extensionless file called "Program" in the root of C: (I looked at the contents w/ a text editor- some random IRC client extension settings I didn't need) and I deleted it and problem solved. If I create that kind of file back the problem comes back and goes away by deleting it again. I guess it somehow assumes the place of "program files" in certain kinds of program calls. Just posting if by chance this might be of help to you or to someone else.
