Requires Administrator?!
Hey guys,

I am running windows Vista on my new laptop and am still not used to it. There are two things i want to change and are not entirely sure how to do so. I want this pop up to stop asking me admin permission to allow the majority of things, as im the only user on this laptop, and definitly im the administrator.

I also have some hot keys on my laptop, one of them is a media button. It opens Windows Media player, which i hate, how do i get it open something like iTunes or Winamp?

Thanks in advance

The permissions dialog is part of the User Account Control (UAC) which can be changed in two places:
1. Control Panel, User Accounts, Turn User Account Control On or Off
2. Local Security Policy, Local Policies, Security Options, User Account Control (10 settings available).

To reprogram the Media button, you'll need to check the User Guide for the laptop to see if and how it can be done.

The User Guide should be installed on the laptop. Look under Start | All Programs | Toshiba
There may be an icon for it on the Desktop.
If not there, you can download it here:
Toshiba P300 User Guide
or view it online here:
Toshiba P300 User Guide
Click the User Guide tab
This page isn't your exact model, but the User Guides are written for a series, not a particular model.

The Media button is reprogrammed using the Toshiba Assist utility
Click Start | All Programs | Toshiba | Utilities | TOSHIBA Assist.
Click Optimize
Click TOSHIBA Button Support
Select the button you want to change, enter the Description and Path to the program, click Register

Don't forget to make your Recovery DVDs:
Start | All Programs | Recovery Disc Creator.

Requires?! Administrator
Good day peterh40

I tried installing NitroPDF Pro 64 bit software into my Vista 64 bit computer and it will not let me. I am of course the administrator but I also now know what UAC does. I have been using this new machine since early September 2009. I checked out your post and I cannot find item 2? I wandered through the Control Panel and various parts of it, where am I not looking.

Thanks

The Local Security Policy is available on the higher versions for Vista/Win7. You must a 'Home' edition. To get the 10 settings, use Regedit:

For Windows 7, look here:
