Printer on Mac & Vista

I have an HP printer (C4580) that is attached (wireless) to my wife's Mac. If I try to attach it to my Vista Machine, the computer finds the printer but will not attach it. Can it be that a single printer cannot be attached to both Mac and Windows computers?
