hi i fancy getting a copy of windows 7 but i dont no which one to get my current laptop is running vista premium i love my laptop so dont want to change it would i be better getting the w7 upgrade or the clean install version also do i have to wipe the HDD clean or do both versions of w7 do it for you ..................ps do you know of anywhere doing offers on w7 and how much should i expect to pay

Clean install is better
because you probably have alot of things slowing down your vista and a fresh install of windows 7 would be a mind-blowing improvement

A friend of mine found too many compatability issues to make upgrading an 18 month old laptop sensible.

As far as offers go, the 3-pack or 7Home upgrade version for $150 U.S. Student version for $30 U.S., OEMs starting at about $110
(wonder if student version is Home or Pro? Choice??).

Clean install is much better than upgrade, but i believe most people will be upgrading. I"ve installed Win7 on two laptops and one desktop (upgrade) and haven't had any issues. Depending on how many files, programs installed, etc, will make the upgrade timetable longer. Its been a steady 1:45 to 2:00 hrs. Before you upgrade, you will need to uninstall all incompatible programs. itunes, google toolbar, are just a few.
