Lite-On DVDRW LH-20A1H Again
I have a Lite-On DVDRW LH-20A1H drive that refuses to read, burn, or do anything with DVD's. The Device Mgr says everything is working well. I have checked the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSEt\Control\Class key: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and there were no "filters" to remove. I am running 5600+64bit Dual Core AMD CPU and using Windows XP. From expired post it seems that other people have had problems with the Lit-On. I would appreciate any help.

Have you updated the firmware?

There is a new release for October.

Is that the same as getting the latest driver?

No, it is software that is on a chip in the drive itself, kind of like flashing a bios.

I looked it up for (LH-20A1H) and it showed a new firmware for October.

choose optical storage in the first box, them LH-20A1H in the second, then hit search

Thanks. I downloaded and installed the firmware. It still copies files a CD but but will not copy photo files to a DVD. It doesn't show "D" drive as being a CD drive and not a DVD/CD drive.

Dis-regard that last answer. It does show "D" drive as a CD drive but not a DVD/CD drive. I am trying to move photos to a DVD.

Mumbodog thanks for the help. I have reinstalled the firmware up date a second time and it still shows a CD drive instead of a DVD/CD drive. That is it for tonight. Thanks again for the help. I will see what I have in the morning. I like your "Loral and Hardy" dancers. Gobel

Mumbodog after I installed the update on firmware and rebooted the computer, "My Computer" showed a Local Disc(C, DVD-RAM Drive(D, and Removable Disks (F, (G, (H and (I. When I place a blank DVD into the tray and try to send files to it the DVD-RAM Drive (D turns into CD Drive (D and will not go back to DVD-RAM Drive (D until I remove the disk from the tray.

I would try using a 3rd party burning software.

Side Note: I was having the same problem with my other computer. I downloaded the firmware update for a HP DVD/CD WRITER 740b. After installing the up-date everything worked fine..............You are directly responsible for that. Thanks

Now this computer. I will try using Nero..
