Many issues with Vista updates
On 10/22/09, I updated my HP Pavilion dv6000 computer, which uses Vista Ultimate. I had not updated it in a few months, and there were 28 updates. After restarting, I got a message saying my user profile had not loaded correctly and I was being given a temporary profile. After chatting with HP tech support, I created a new user profile. Also during last weekend I tried to update my AVG antivirus 8.5 to the 9.0 version. In the process, it said to uninstall Norton. I attempted to uninstall Norton, but the process never said it was finished. AVG gave me a message that the download failed due to some Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. AVG forum help said to uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++ and then reinstall it. The uninstall wouldn't work b/c it said an installer was still running and needed to complete first. This morning I found that the computer had restarted after updates were installed at 3 a.m. When attempting to login to my profile and use the computer, everything I've tried to do all day has resulted in EXTREMELY sluggish performance, "not responding" messages, and one message about a prevalence reporter stopped working. Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks!

Just FYI...took laptop to computer repair. The hard drive had to be replaced. Then there were issues with getting Windows Vista Service Pack 2 updated. They got the AVG 9.0 put on, and then the other issues resolved.
