Vista to 7
I have found various answers to my question. Therefore I ask here to clarify: Is it possible to upgrade from Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Ultimate?

If so, will the already installed programs continue to work?

Moving x86 to x86 or x64 to x64? Yes.

And they should, though some might break. When I tested it, I lost firefox and everything else carried over just fine.

I then did a clean install and have not had any other troubles.

I agree with LoserOlimbs, you can only upgrade from 32-bit to 32-bit or from 64-bit to 64-bit,anything else would require a clean install
I upgraded from windows vista ultimate to windows 7 ultimate with no problems.99% of programs that work in vista work in windows 7
