Thanks for the update.

It is my understanding [ I am NOT an attorney / barrister. ] that Microsoft requires, in the license agreement that the computer vendor provide a means of repairing or re-installing Windows and make that available to the computer purchaser.

I have no documentation of that information.

problem solved

my laptop:TOSHIBA
my model:satellite u400 20V

use this software to create a recover DVD (it requires 2 DVDs)
software name: TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator

i have a friend has the same laptop as me and he installed windows 7 RC
i was wondering if i create a recover DVD and gave him this DVD will it help him restore his original vista?

If you formated the C Drive, probably not . . the MBR would have been rewritten

Interesting.

I have no experience w/ this recovery product.

However, I would have thought that using the recovery software on an identical computer would work.

Live & learn.
