Solved: can i copy my windows vista?
i have bought a new laptop but they didn't give me the windows CD they say if my windows crash or something all what i need to do is when i turn on my laptop is press F8 and select repair computer option So:
how do i copy my windows vista from my laptop?

how do i know my copy of windows is original?

if i installed a version of vista(the same version when i bought the laptop) that i have downloaded from the internet and activate it with the product key that i have received when i bought my laptop
will it be the same?

There would usually come a recovery disk along. Typically, they'd make a second partition with the recovery disk. Piracy isn't just the best idea. And yeah, you can do it. Just as long as you bought the original key. Still being the same computer, windows will be geniune.

What Brand is this laptop? . . Most of the Major OEM's will furnish a replacement installation disc for a nominal or no charge

You can use Acronis True Image to clone your HDD to another HDD.

You can buy an internal HDD and case or as a unit.

Microsoft has a program called, I think, Am I legit? You could run the Vista product activation tool. You could try to obtain updates from MSFT. I think that will check for authenticity of Windows.

At this point in time, there is no way to create a Vista installation DVD in the same way that there was to create an XP install CD.
Example for XP: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r191...-Windows-XP-CD

MSFT had planned to include such a mechanism w/ Vista's SP1, but the project was dropped.

If you did not download it from Microsoft, or from a vendor working w/ MSFT [ for example, Digital River ], we may not be able to help you, because this forum has rules against assisting w/ pirated software.

This is intended as information and NOT as an accusation.

Back from whom / what? If not Microsoft or Digital River, or company like DR, I have no clue.

Take your pick.

You shouldn't have to pay $100 for the original operating system to be installed. You should have been provided with restore disks or a restore partition. I wouldn't do business with that company again.

Once one installs a different OS, then the retailer is no longer required to support that machine.

As for the "Restore Partition" it MAY still be there, but the software to get to it is gone, as Windows 7 does NOT contain it. The restore software is from the OEM not Microsoft. So, $100 is cheap to get your machine rebuilt.

The owner is to burn the recover DVD/CD when the OS disks are not provided. All of the machines that I know of have posted messages that they need to be burned, and a link to get them started.

Each make and model is different, post your make and model or contact the OEM of your machine?

If the bookstore used their own [ proprietary ] method, then only they can provide the steps.

You can create an image using Acronis True Image.
Step by step in the manual, which you can read / download at / from http://us1.download.acronis.com/sl/n...erGuide.en.pdf
page 36; section 6

I suspected this was built by a local shop, which is why I said you shouldn't have to pay $100 to get the operating system reinstalled. It sounds like they're running quite a racket. If they don't provide any type of recovery system and then charge to do a reinstall, that's not very consumer-friendly.
