Solved: HP Firebird random shutdown My buddy has a really nice HP Firebird running Vista. He recently went on vacation for about a week and when he returned his computer would not boot at first. It took some time but it finally did, then it began to turn off after an hour or so. He would turn it back on and it would shut down after 30 minutes. Every time he turned it on it would shut down sooner.
He did a restore back to the day before he left for his vacation but had the same problems.
With all the rain that has come through recently I suspect his system may be suffering from a lightning strike surge. I think his power supply may be fried.
I can't see his system because he lives a thousand miles away, he has limited access to the web now and is not very tech savvy anyway.
Does anyone else have any other ideas? The Firebird is only about 6 months old but I don't think HP's warranty will cover a surge even if it takes out the PSU, and that PSU must be proprietary, I'm assuming because the case is crazy slick.
Thanks,
JTN
