Try a reststart and if it takes you to safemode window hit last known good config then if no joy while in safemode do a system restore and choose another restore point go back to last checkpoint or earlier if you can then let it do its stuff good luck | | Junior Member with 8 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2009 Experience: Intermediate | | how do i do that what do i do to that in safe mode cause i have got no icons or menu button, just my documents | | Member with 41 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2009 Location: Yorkshire Experience: Intermediate | | ok try this, it is only a temporary fix but it seems that explorer.exe is pointing to your documents file and i'm sure someone with a bit more knowledge will come along and post a bit more about this soon. first reboot pc, when pc boots up and shows documents screen press ctrl+alt+delete keys at the same time for about a second or 2, next a new window will pop up called task manager, ok click on the processe tab at the top of the window and look for explorer.exe, click on it and click end process, next click on file at the top and choose new task (run) then type in explorer.exe like i said this is only a temporary fix but it should redirect explorer to your desktop, if you power down the machine you will have to do the above again i hope this helps you out a little and i will try and do a bit more research for you to find a permanent fix, so please post back on the results | | Member with 41 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2009 Location: Yorkshire Experience: Intermediate | | Hi cal21 i have done a bit of research on your problem and come up with what i think is a solution, firstly get your machine up and running using the temporary fix i listed above, the second part of the fix requires altering a registry value, if you are not confident with doing this then obtain the services of a friend who has the necessary skills/experience, as altering the wrong value may cause irrepairable harm to the pc. ok how to proceed click start and type regedit in the search box, in the results pane click regedit to open, you are looking to navigate to a register entry named: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion\winlogon you need to expand the items in the left hand pane until you have got to the winlogon then click on the winlogon to open the registry at that point ( it will be in the right hand pane) when the list opens up look for shell which will be under name, next to that should be REG SZ under type then check under the data column and make sure it reads explorer.exe thats all if it reads anything other than explorer.exe then edit the entry to read just that, no other letters or numbers, IMPORTANT! make a backup of the registry before you start making any alterations, i hope this helps you out buddy | | Junior Member with 8 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2009 Experience: Intermediate | | Quote:
