New laptop already having problems
I just got a new Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop with Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 and I already seem to have problems. First, the cursors don't animate, you know how Vista cursors have the blue circle that has a little light that runs in the blue circle, mine dosen't do that. My cursors don't animate. I installed a Dell usb external mouse and for a second, my cursors worked right and stopped. Is there a problem with my vid card or touchpad? Second, when I first boot my computer up and have everything loaded and go to Control Panel, it freezes and I have to go to Task Manager and end the program, but once I do that one time and go back to Control Panel, it is fine until I turn the laptop off. When I turn it back on, it does it again until I tell task manager to end it. Do I already have a problem with this laptop?

Hi,
I've got the same make/model & OS and have not had any of those problems. Don't know how to solve them but if it was me & the laptop is new I'd go back to the supplier for an exchange - not a repair.

D:
1002richards might be correct.

When did the problems begin? IMMEDIATELY out of the box, or after you installed a program or a program [ to include Windows ] obtained an update?

Which program / process to you need to terminate?

What happens in safe mode?

How about in selective startup, with only the Microsoft services running and no startup items enabled [ in the system configuration utility; SKA msconfig ]?

Yes, it showed up right out of the box. Maybe I should take it back.

Take it back..Did you get this retail at a walkin chain such as best buy?
Although i love their prices..am not crazy about their warranty work...everything will be blamed on a software problem...they are not the only ones guilty of this.
Alot of places give you a few days to bring it back without question..however if this grace period is gone and you are under warranty...stand firm when they blame the software crap...next after standing firm and getting them to take the machine...they will do a factory recovery on it losing your personal files.
