Really need advice! please help x
I purchased a dell inspiron 1545 around 3 weeks ago.
It came with windows vista home basic
It started crashing/freezing a few days ago so i did a system restore..
But it still crashed so i did another system restore (there was a restore point called factory image)
It worked great for a few days then today it wouldnt load windows and kept restarting so I had to reinstall my windows.
Anyway i have alot of problems now -
1. My installed files on device manager is completely empty
2. My screen is stretched and i only have 1 other option of the screen which still looks stretched
3. My inbuilt dell wireless is gone
4. I have to use my old usb wireless adapter which i dont want to do as i payed for inbuilt wireless
5. Strange static noises coming from speakers although volume is off
6. a number of keys wont work properly
7. Recovery drive is gone
8. No restore points

I have a few disks -
1. Dell drivers and utilities - this doesnt seem to do anything when i put it in just bring up details of my system
2. Windows vista - installed
3. Cyberlink
4. Webcam driver (will install it if i ever sort out the other problems)

I am extremely dissapointed. I spent all my money on this and begged my gran to lend me some.. please help. How do i get it back to normal!?

Thanks so much xx

Hi and welcome to the forum, i'm scratching my head on this one at the moment but let's go through a few basics, firstly what if any software have you installed or downloaded recently? have you done a virus check? if not give malwarebytes a go it's pretty good, next can you boot in safe mode?

Hi,
If it's only 3 weeks old it should be under warranty, why not see if the supplier will do an exchange as it's faulty?

G A :
I agree w/ richards, that you might need to return this Inspiron.

Would you describe yourself as an advanced, intermediate or beginner computer user?

Have you run memory / ram diags from the Vista DVD? Do so. If it passes, download & run MemTest86, www.memtest86.com . You will need to create a bootable CD.

Run HDD [ hard disk drive ] diags from the Dell utility disk.
Which HDD brand, model & model # have you?

Control panel > classic view
1. Admin tools > event viewer
Applications
Look for errors. Provide the details

System
Look for errors. Provide the details

2. Problem reports & solutions.
What is listed?

It sounds like you stuck the dell windows disk in and did an install...you should have used the factory image again.
you have all the disks you need to get fixed up however...
post your service tag here and I will tell what drivers to put on in what order.

Also you need to do as rainforest suggested with diagnostics.
Alot of dells shipped with shotty ram....there arent bad units..heck i got one...but the ram failed twice in less than 6 months

to run dell diagnostics...boot to f12...choose diagnostics let it test all your hardware..its a long test..be plugged in[AC]...also it needs to be plugged in for all the tests to be proper..you can also boot the disk disk to run it if you have wiped out the utility partition

If your lappy passes Dell's diags, run the Mem / Ram diags from the Vista DVD.

No test is 100% sensitive [ picks up every problem ].
