Windows Vista Recurring Corruptions
I've always used Second hand computers from yard sales, have never even had a vaguely major or recurring problem besides the little junk here and there.

I decided I want a better, portable, computer with decent RAM and hard drive space, set out and find a great, new, Asus K50IJ laptop.

About two weeks after, I restart to get a "A critical windows driver is corrupt or missing" screen (TCPIP, for the record) and can not boot. Had not backed up yet, as I don't have enough spare money at the moment to pick up a pack of new CD-R's, plus, I figured, hey it's brand new, why bother for another month? Well, I was quite wrong.

Reinstalled windows, moved on, a week later.. Same thing. This time "Volmgr". Same story. File loss, and reinstalling. 3 days later, again. In total, 8 times in 2 months. Can be a shut down or restart. Sometimes after just having it off, sometimes after installing. (One time after a windows update, one time after an Asus driver download from a previous loss.)

I've read about it online, found nothing that helped. A lot said it's an SP1 issue, I, on 56k dial up, bothered to download the 700 some MB SP2 upgrade. What do I get? The windows corruption for installing it. I'm really, really at the end of my limit here.

Wanted to know if somebody, anybody has some advice as to this problem. Windows 7 will not be arriving for quite a while, and overall.. Just sick of it. Do note if I left out any key info, and sorry for the slightly large textwall. Just frustrated at this. Tried to keep it to the point.

But, anyways, all answers/tips are appreciated.

Thanks.

(Edit: Was bugging me, went in and edited it up into sections for you. Night!)

Hello & Welcome to TGF.

What's the warranty on the computer?

What are your lappy's hardware specifications?

Have you run ram diags from the advanced startup menu? If not, do so. If the ram passes, run MemTest86. www.memtest86.com . Run any mem test for 8+ hrs.

Have you run HDD [ hard disk drive ] diags? What are the brand, model & model # of your HDD?

Run OCCT to stress the processor.
http://www.ocbase.com/

Paragraphs are useful for me.

You asked for tips.

Please provide a product information page for your computer.

Control panel > classic view
1. Admin tools > event viewer > windows logs
Applications
Look for errors. Provide the details.

System
Look for errors. Provide the details.

2.Problem reports & solutions.
What is listed?

Alright, to start off. (And thank you.)

The warranty is active, as it's rather brand new. But, before I break down to the repair/replacement warranty stage I'd rather ask around, y'know?

As for basic specs.. Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T4200, 3 GB DDR2 memory, 320 GB HDD.

Yes I have run the ram diags, as well as the HDD diags, both passed. I haven't done the Memtest86 yet, will do that in a bit.

Going to run OCCT when the download finishes.

Here's the product page - http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=ZWrNVPXEbNNTjJZg

Now, the error details. In applications all but a couple are when it failed to dial connection (When I forget to plug in the cord. >.>). Only other ones say the following - Source "WMI" and all say "Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected."

For system, there are numerous errors. A bundle of "HTTP Event" errors containing "Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The data field contains the error number."

Next, a bundle of CDROM errors saying "The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block."

Then iaStor with "The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period."

Next up Bitsclient saying "The BITS service failed to start. Error 2147943515."

Service control manager has numerous different errors- "The stisvc service was unable to log on as NT Authority\LocalService with the currently configured password due to the following error:
The security account manager (SAM) or local security authority (LSA) server was in the wrong state to perform the security operation."
"The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service hung on starting."
"The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not start due to a logon failure."
And finally (Apologies for amount) "The SSDP Discovery service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not start due to a logon failure."

There is nothing listed under problem reports and solutions. I must run now. Sorry, I will return with the OCCT/Memtest86 results later. And hopefully this is enough to go with. I greatly appreciate your time.

Thanks again. =D

Edit: Oh, and yeah. I try to spell correctly and use, vaguely, decent grammar. But when it comes to paragraphs and such.. Eh. If you can read it and I don't sound like an utter moron, I don't mind text walls.

T Y E:
Did you run ASUS' HDD diags, or the HDD manufacturer's diags? Run the other.

UBCD , www.ubcd4win.com has some diags, too, which are run outside of Windows.

Good job w/ the details.

EXCELLENT w/ the paragraphs. Easier for me.

Quite a few items to tackle. If the lappy passes the diags:

Does your lappy have a recovery option [ NOT Vista's system restore ]?

Turn off the lappy. Remove the battery. Run the lappy off the A/C current.

Boot to a command prompt.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/19...t-startup.html
type: chkdsk / r
Press "enter".
Admin tools > event viewer > windows logs > applications, I think, could be system
Look for Winlogon
Report the details.

Go into the BIOS and load defaults.

Run a repair installation.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/19...t-startup.html

Run the system recovery, if available.

Heh. Sorry, I'll type a bit more clearer now. Dunno why I always type like that. Anyways, it's been quite a long few days of no sleep and I need some, just checking back before heading back.

I greatly appreciate your responses and time, and will finish everything you mentioned both in first and second posts when I wake up.

Thanks much. And sorry for cutting off short.

No problem.

If we didn't need sleep, some of us wouldn't sleep. Eventually, everyone sleeps. Trust your brain, when it comes to sleep.
