Solved: Same problems after reinstalling OS 3 times
Everytime I finish installing 3 updates (I do not know which one):

1. Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 Security Update for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 (KB974469)

2. Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 x86 (KB963707)

3. Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows Vista (KB976749)

PROBLEMS
1. I cannot load videos in any website with Firefox anymore while I can load videos with IE.

2. My DVD/CD-ROM driver, named "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT20N", will have an error "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".

My OS is Windows Vista. I can give you the details of the updates if the need arises. Thanks in advance for any solutions.

Which Vista? 32 or 64 bit?

Which AntiVirus program? Which AntiSpyware program? Which firewall? What other [ if any ] computer security programs?

When did the system last work well? What changed?

Any chance you can install the updates 1 at a time; reboot; test?

Control panel > classic view > windows updates
view the installed updates

Have a look at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/w...alling-updates
Control panel > classic view > problem reports & solutions
What is listed there?

Control panel > admin tools > event viewer
On left, windows logs > applications

On left, windows logs > system
Look for errors.
Provide us w/ the details.

1. Vista 32 bit

2. Norton 360; Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware; SUPERAntiSpyware; HijackThis; System Protect

3. The system last worked well before the updates were installed.

4. I do not think so unless there is a way to uninstall the updates.

5. Listed there are:

Read the Microsoft page about updates.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/w...alling-updates

This, too.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/w...move-an-update
Not all updates can be removed.

Open the error message in event viewer. On the right margin, look for "copy".
http://www.petri.co.il/vista-event-viewer.htm

http://blogs.msdn.com/robburke/archi...Scheduler.aspx

Copy the details to your computer's clipboard, paste them into notepad. Attach the notepad file, or insert the contents into a reply.

After uninstalling one update, "Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 x86 (KB963707)", my DVD-ROM started working properly. However, I am still unable to load videos with Firefox. Thanks for your help.

I am able to load videos with Firefox after disabling the add-on "Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant" installed by the update now. Thanks for your assistance.
