Windows Vista Loading to Blue Screen?
Okay, so i got my laptop about 3-4 weeks ago, and it's worked fine, then i install a crappy War game and when it restarts for installation, the error starts. i get repair or start normally, and neither of these worked, it just loads, does the left to right loading bar stay black for 10-15 mins, then goes to blue screen, 2 empty looking command boxes stagger down, and i'm just left with a mouse and a blue screen.
it happens for all the settings i open it with, and when i open it in Safe Mode, i just get "safe mode" in each corner, a blank screen and the service pack info at the top, only thing that works is the mouse.
This is very annoying, and it won't let me system restore, because the "repair" option just leads to a blue screen before i get any option of repairing, any ideas?

Which Vista? 32 or 64 bit?

Which brand, model, model # is your computer? Do you have a Vista DVD? Do you have a system recovery DVD or set of DVDs from the manufacturer?

Please provide all of the Blue Screen text.

Which "War game"?

Have you tried to boot to the advanced options menu [ F8 tapping during re-boot / start up ]?
Which options have you tried?

Please provide a product page, from support.hp.com .

If you have a digital camera, try to take a picture.

Also, on your keyboard, you have a "pause" button. Press / tap it. That might help.

Boot to the advanced options menu.
type: chkdsk /r
press "enter"

report the results.

From the advanced menu options, do you have a repair feature? I do NOT refer to an HP / CPQ system recovery [ or system restore ] feature. Using that MIGHT cause you to lose all of your data!

You might need to contact HP / CPQ to obtain said disks. I have seen HP & CPQ computers with a recovery partition. During the boot process, watch for a notice, when the CPQ splash screen appears, telling you to press [ probably ] F10 to access the manufacturer's recovery.

This is VERY different from Windows' system restore!

We are brilliant but not clairvoyant.

Thats my product, i'm not sure what you mean when i need to type in chkdsk.
and theres nothing i can click which will make any difference, they all end up making it go through the normal load up, then pausing on a black screen for ages and then blue screen.

Vista 32 bit
i can get to the advanced menu, but then theres nowhere to type anything in?

thanks for helping

Boot to the advanced options menu.

go to command prompt
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/19...t-startup.html
HOPEFULLY you have option 2.

If not, try option 1.

Additional information about option 1 at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...ding-safe-mode

Run diags for your HDD & ram.
www.memtest.com

www.ubcd4win.com has a lot of diags.

From the product information page you provided:
Quote:
Software included
Recovery partition (including possibility to recover system, applications and drivers separately); Optional re-allocation of recovery partition; Recovery CD/DVD creation tool; Symantec™ Norton Internet Security™ 2009 (60 days live update); Notebook Help & Support
.

Go to the product page you provided, for the quote.

Go into your BIOS [ might be displayed as "setup" on the splash screen and set the boot order to boot from the optical drive, before the HDD.

F10 to enter the BIOS

OR

F9 for boot order, per
http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/startup/index.htm

If needed, go to the "other solutions customers found helpful" section at

I have no experience w/ Imgburn.
http://www.ubcd4win.com/burn.htm

You will need to set the boot sequence so that your computer looks at the optical drive for boot instructions, before looking at the HDD for boot instructions. See #12, above.

Best of success.

Maybe you need to take a break, enjoy the day, then come back to this project. Sometimes, things can seem over whelming.

Please know that I do not intend to be disrepectful of your skills & knowledge, J.

I can provide advice; generally web pages that have a lot more information than I have time to type or copy & paste.

In summary:
1. Run chkdsk /r, as noted above.
2.If that doesn't fix your problem, run the memory / ram & HDD diags, which may point you to a solution.

See the diagnostic section and multi boot tools sections here.
