windows stuck on configuring updates
Computer keeps restarting itself and every time there`s a message "Configuring updates 3 of 3 0% complete. Do not turn off your computer".
It will restart itself a few times with the same message and then after a few restarts nothing happens. The computer is on but windows will not start up.

It`s windows vista home.

Which Home, basic or Premium?
32 or 64 bit?
Which SP?

Have you tried http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&c...&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

Which would take you here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358 , for example.

I`ve tried the links you posted and i`m told to boot into safe mode but the computer will not enter safe mode, it reboots and the same thing starts happening all over again.

Tapping the F8 key once a second, during the boot / re-boot process won't take you to safe mode?

You tried all 1900 hits from the Google search? I admire your dedication.

Only other advice I can offer, then is www.ubcd4win.com ; has some diags, and you can access your files, to copy them to a flash drive.

HOW did you access system restore?

Can you access option 2 at http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/19...t-startup.html
to run startup repair?

As a last resort, consider a registry rollback. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...88(WS.10).aspx

Before doing so, backup your data. To do so, create a bootable UBCD , www.ubcd4win.com . Copy your important files to a flash drive.

Got in via system recovery options. Went into command prompt and typed chkdsk /r and this is what i got back:
The type of the file system is NTFS
Cannot lock current drive.
Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected.

Then:
X:\windows\system32>

Type:
C:
press "enter"
type:
chkdsk /r
press "enter"

You need / want to run chkdsk on the partition onto which Windows is installed. I ASSUME that Windows was installed on your C: drive.

Message now is:

The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first.
ALL OPEN HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID.
Would you like to force a dismounty on this volume? <Y/N>
