It will restart itself a few times with the same message and then after a few restarts nothing happens. The computer is on but windows will not start up.

You tried all 1900 hits from the Google search? I admire your dedication. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...ding-safe-mode
Only other advice I can offer, then is www.ubcd4win.com ; has some diags, and you can access your files, to copy them to a flash drive.

#11 | Got in via system recovery options. Went into command prompt and typed chkdsk /r and this is what i got back:
The type of the file system is NTFS
Cannot lock current drive.
Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected.

#12 | Type:
C:
press "enter"
type:
chkdsk /r
press "enter"
You need / want to run chkdsk on the partition onto which Windows is installed. I ASSUME that Windows was installed on your C: drive.

#13 | Message now is:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first.
ALL OPEN HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID.
Would you like to force a dismounty on this volume? <Y/N> | | Distinguished Member with 5,473 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2004 Experience: Advanced |
