Issue with BOOTMGR missing?
Okay. Long story short, I formatted my main drive with the intent of using the recovery disc to install it again (Had a virus.). So, I pop the disc in, and it acts like it might, MAYBE boot from the disc. And then it doesn't. It tells me that BOOTMGR is missing, and to please restart. So I try manually selecting where the computer was to boot from, I select my disc drive, and the same error crops up. My BIOS has a "Hit F11 for System Restore" that comes up at start. I hit that, and the BOOTMGR error comes up. So, TL;DR: I get the BootMGR error on every attempt I've made, and I cannot get it to read a recovery disc. Help?

There are viruses that can infect your MBR & Boot Record; also some that can infect your BIOS?

Please provide your level of computer expertise; advanced, intermediate, beginner, other.

Please provide us with the brand, model, model # of your computer or the motherboard, as well as BIOS information.

If an OEM PC, please provide a product information page.

Thanks.

We are here to serve.

Model: IQ504
Product Number: KQ436AA- ABA
Serial: 3CR8210SS6

It's an HP Touch Pro. The model is no longer produced, so I can't really link to a valid product page from the HP site.

Did you look at the link I provided? Some information about your computer is available.

As I asked in #2, what is

Please answer the other questions asked, as well.

The more information we have, the sooner we can help you solve your problem.

What is the EXACT error message?
Caps for emphasis, not shouting.

Would you describe yourself as an advanced, intermediate or beginning computer user?

Have you tried to create & use a Vista rec DVD?

It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and just serves as a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC.
If you can create & boot to said disk, THIS might help.

How I found it.

TL;DR is an abbreviation used by todays young folks at the end of a long post, and indicated "Too long, didn't read." followed by a brief description of the post for people who didn't want to read the entire thing.

The exact message is as follows: "BOOTMGR is missing. Press Ctrl+alt+delete to restart."

Thanks for the links.

Edit: All the links tell me what I already know. If I could get it to read off of the boot DVD, I would. Amusingly, HP didn't include one, so I don't have one. I've burned repair ISO's and entire instillation DVD's, and it refuses to read anything but an OEM Vista DVD. Since I can't afford to buy a Vista install right now, is there any other way around this? None of those links cover that, except one reccomending a Linux tool, and the link is broken for it.

For computers that don't read optical disks, my suggestion is to try a different brand of disk.

HP might have a preferred optical disk manufacturer.

Despite the communication issue, those of us at TGF, unpaid volunteers all, are here to assist you.

YCTTCAUBDCABFT.

OYCTASR.

Because you did not provide the broken link [ all of which worked for me ], I have nothing more to add.
