Have had similar trouble, that computer will not restart as problem when starting from CD have found that after it finds your system and starts repair click cancel button and say yes then on new panel go to cmd and write rstrui.exe/OFFLINE:C:Windows it will bring up the system restore window (Remove disk from computer now) and click retsore at least 3 - 5 days before last restore point. but after any last install of software or you will have to reinstall that.

A system restore will do nothing to help a computer that can't boot from the optical drive. You've eliminated the disk and the drive as the problem. That leaves the cable, the motherboard connector, and the board itself.

Try a different cable. Try a different SATA or IDE port. If neither work, I'd say it's a problem with the motherboard and that it'll need to be replaced.
