c 4:
Can you access Windows? Does the desktop appear?

If yes, if present, press the "windows / flag " key on your keyboard. If you have not such a key: hold down the "ctl" key, tap the "esc" key, release "ctl". Does anything appear?

Do you have a Vista OS DVD? If so, boot to it, select command prompt.
See option 2 at http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/19...t-startup.html

type: C:
press "enter"
type: chkdsk /r
Press enter

Report the results.

i dont have the disk
and the command prompt is saying
Quote:
C>chkdsk/r
Access Denied as you do noy have sufficient privilages.
You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode.
will the disk let me do it because i dont have a clue what "elevated mode" is.

Did you boot to option 2?

Do you have the choice of logging in as Administrator?

Note the space between "chkdsk" and "/r"
