Windows Vista + Java problems
Hi everyone,
Unfortunately I've been having a huge problem trying to install Java on my laptop..

Whenever I attempt to use any program that requires Java I either get an applet that isn't displaying properly and is just a red x in the left hand corner or i receive an error message. ex.

When I try and download Java from the Java website, after I go through the installation process this always pops up:

I have tried downloading the offline version of Java and manually downloading Java but it does not work. After clicking yes or no to the reinstall prompt above, the windows installer attempts to remove Java but no luck.

At Java's website they offer a test to determine whether Java is installed/working on your computer. http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

After failing this test, they offer 3 options to attempt to get Java working on your computer. I have cleared my temporary Internet files and have tried to enable Java through both IE and Firefox.

When I open up programs via the control panel I see this weird empty version of java and when I try to uninstall java the windows uninstaller tries to remove Java but never works.

Help would be greatly appreciated!!

Try this

Go to programs and features, uninstall All versions of Java you find in there, oldest to newest.

Restart the PC and try the offline installer again.
