Strange Minimization Problem: 30 minute intervals
I recently started having a strange problem: certain applications minimized seemingly randomly.

The problem started yesterday. I first noticed this while playing War Craft 3. It seemed to happen a few times an hour.

Early today, I was streaming video (Megavideo) in fullscreen mode only to be rudely ejected and returned to the regular embedded player with no apparent cause.

This happened a few times before I noticed the times that it was happening:

1:45
3:45

4:45
5:15
5:45
6:15

The first 2 times I wasn't watching constantly, so I'm not positive these were all the times this happened, but from about 4:30 to 6:30 all the occurrences are listed.

I did some google searching before coming here. I found many people with a similar problem (minimized out of fullscreen games was the common issue) with no solutions, and no mention of the interesting periodic nature of my problem.

My first thought was some sort of update, but the problem persisted after I closed most of the applications I had running.

Other (possibly) useful information:

The event interrupts my screen saver.

I tested VLC media player in full screen mode at 6:45; nothing happened. This isn't definitive proof that the event doesn't affect VLC in fullscreen (because I'm not positive it actually happens every 30 minutes), but based on the regularity leading up to this point, I think this is a safe assumption.

I am currently running a virus scan (AVG). Any solutions or ideas are much appreciated.

Computer/OS:

Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit) SP1
Intel Core2 Duo P9700 2.8 GHz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
4 gigs DD3

Hello & Welcome to TG Forum.

Thanks for providing the Vista flavor, # of bits, & SP.

Boot to safe mode.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial61.html
Test.

If it doesn't happen in safe mode, the problem is caused by a service in Windows, or a program that runs during normal mode in Windows.

Read about clean boot trouble shooting. If the problem doesn't occur in safe mode, we can use CBTS to locate the culprit. If you decide to perform CBTS on your own [ which would not offend me ], take careful notes. Sometimes, the order of entries changes. So, don't write down, I enabled the top 6 things. List each of the six things.

Best of success.

Hi, I just wanted to say I got the exact same problem. Also running AVG. There were an update a few days ago. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Yep, it's AVG:

Hello & welcome to TG Forum.

Thanks for providing that information!

FYI / FWIW.
I upgraded AVG 8.5 Internet Security to AVG IS 9.0; upgrade, not install. 1 PC w / XP Pro SP2 and 1 PC w / Vista Ultimate, 32 bit & 1 PC w / Win 7 Pro.

I am not a gamer. I do not run any programs in full screen mode.
