Operating system not found
Hi all, I'm having trouble with my Fujitsu Siemens laptop - when I switch it on there appears a black screen with the message "Operating system not found".

Using the Operating System Recovery disc, I have followed the instructions that appear to install a clean copy of Windows (as it tells me "Upgrade has been disabled").
When it asks "Where do you want to install Windows?" as no drives are found, at this point I've tried using the Drivers and Utilities disc that came with my laptop. But after scanning this it says "No device drivers were found". So I can't proceed any further.

Could anyone provide any guidance please?

I should mention that I am able to access the BIOS upon start up, but I don't really know what I'm doing and don't want to go messing around with it without help.
I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1718 laptop
Model: MS2212
Windows Vista Home Basic.

Any suggestions very greatly appreciated!

Go back to the drivers disk/section on the install. They have to be installed one at a time. I had the same problem w/dau's machine.

This message often means a hard drive failure. Look in the first BIOS screen and see if your HD is listed.
This is sometimes resolvable by re-seating the HD.

Thank you all for your help.

I have the recovery disc in that link, so if all else fails I'll try that, although it is for Windows XP, not Vista.

I've went back to the drivers disc part of the installation, but I don't know how I can install them one by one as there are none listed when I put the Drivers disc in.

I've had a look at the first BIOS screen and don't see the HD listed there. If it's a problem with the hard drive, does this mean I will have to buy another one? Sorry for my lack of tech knowledge.

If the drive is not found it usually means it's failed and you'll need a new one.
Sometimes they get loose, so you might try re-seating it in the case.
