I see you have the SearchIndexer.exe process running. This process can significantly increase CPU usage on some PCs and possibly cause some applications to freeze...

To disable it, click on Start > Search > type services.msc

Scroll down to Windows Search.

Double-click on it and stop the service. You may also disable it.

Ok...I disabled it...I'm gonna do some surfing here to see if the problem continues. Do you think that Windows Search was the culprit? Or is it just a general suggestion to disable it regardless?

I can't be sure it's the culprit but I've seen it causing problems on other machines. Test it and see.

Keep us posted.

Well, that didn't take long....browser locked up as soon as I made my last post and tried to navigate back to another page.

Back to the drawling board I suppose.

Is really all we have left to draw from? Are there any other ways to diagnos this issue? What about the Event ID 10 & Event ID 15016 errors? Does that point to anything in particular?

Only thing I can suggest for now is browsing after booting in Safe Mode with Networking. Once we've established that an application is indeed conflicting with your browsers, we might then try a Clean Boot to isolate the culprit.

Ok....I did as you said, Safe Mode with Network. I used both browsers and surfed on generally safe websites because I had my firewall and AVG down. I could not recreate the problem so we may be on to something here...I can't be sure if I stayed in safe mode all day that the issue wouldn't pop up, but I bounced from website to website with ease and no issues occured.

What does this tell you?

If the issue doesn't occur anymore in Safe Mode with Networking, I think one of your non-Windows applications, meaning AVG, Windows Live Messenger, ZoneAlarm... is causing the hang-ups.

You could also update from AVG 8.0 to 9.0. Perhaps the latest version will have some new fixes or will correct your possibly corrupt version...

Ok...this is what I'll do..

I'll update AVG to 9.0. If that doesn't work then I will uninstall ZA and just use the windows firewall as it is probably fine for my daily use on a single PC.

Any other suggestions? If this doesn't work the culprit is AVG or unknown. MSN Messenger can be removed from the startup, but don't think that is the isse as I am rarely logged in.

UPDATE:

The good news is that the AVG update to 9.0 was an entirely new build so 8.5 was removed in entirety from my PC and then 9.0 was fresh installed. So far I have gone 20 plus hours without jamming up so this is by far a record.

I will report back in 24-36 hours to confirm that this issue is indeed fixed, but as of right now things are looking good.

Thanks again for all your help.

If you don't mind, please start your own thread. It gets a bit confusing when trying to help more than one person in the same thread.

Thank you for understanding.
