Solved: Path
I'm sure the answer to this is "if you have to ask you really shouldn't be messing with it" but here goes anyway...

I'm following the instructions "Then add the bin folder to your PATH."

WTH does that mean?

What instructions?

We don't have a crystal ball.

Click Start, type SystemPropertiesAdvanced, press Enter
Click the Environment Variables button
Under the System variables section, find the Path entry and highlight it.
Click the Edit button
This will open the Edit System Variable dialog, should have the info in the Variable Value: box highlighted. If not, click once in the Variable value: box
Press the End key -- Make sure you do NOT delete anything that is already in that box
If there is not already a semi-colon (;) at the end, type a semi-colon, then type the full path to the bin folder for what ever software you are installing.
For example, if you are installing the Java SDK, you might type this:
C:\Program Files\jdk1.6.0_17\bin

So the full path variable may look like this:
Code:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files\jdk1.6.0_17\bin
OK your way back to the Desktop and you are done.

You can also add a Path variable under the User variables section, and it will be valid only for the User name you add it to. This will avoid any issues if you accidentally delete something in the System Path variable.

Thanks Outcast - that was very helpful . I've got it added into the PATH properly, not I've just got to figure out why it's not working :S.

I'm trying to install GTK+, my little brother is one of those nutso linux geeks and he's always trying to get me into it, so to shut him up I agreed to try this. Of course he doesn't know how to apply it to windows - so helpful!
