Solved: My Laptop keeps freezing and has currupt files
Hi friends here I am again with a different problem.ugh

I have an HP Laptop with Vista Premium operating system. My computer has been having problems for awhile now and I would like to see if we can fix it. For one it freezes up on me often. The other thing is it has some corrupted files and it has corrupted other files as well. I had Microsoft word that just would no longer work so I decided to download it and it would not work. I noticed other programs I had put in got corrupted as well like my Picture programs that worked fine, now it no longer works and I would reload the software as well and again it did not work.

So is there is any hope for my laptop that is only a little over a year old.

Hi mate sorry you don't seem to be getting a break at all,can you run sfc /scannow and see if it will fix anything, have you run chkdsk to look for other problems, will the repair option on your install or recovery disc or even restore work, have any message shown you a indication of your problem

Okay lets straighten out something here. The other post was a desk top that would not install a DVD Cd player in it do to installer. Well I posted that it was resolved I ended up taking the drive back to the store. Now this post is for my Laptop which is Vista windows premium. I have had continual problems with it. For some reason it has caused much corruption in many of my files and it freezes as well some times like I stated above on this post. This is a HP Laptop I have had it a little over a year now. I have not worked on it because I was dealing with my other computer issues on my desktops.

I could use some help. I do not know if I should just strip this drive and reload it or is there a way to by pass it and get rid of the corrupt files and fix the issues?

So that is my latest update on this so I hope it is straightened out now and you know where we are at on this issue, which this is a total other issue and computer problem.lol I have been so busy and could not respond much but today I would like to work on my laptop and get it fixed.

Thanks for any help you can give. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

Unfortunately, I cannot see anything helpful in your log.

I'm afraid you'll need to run a Repair Install or at least a sfc /scannow.

Have you run UniblueRegistryBooster prior to your problems? It could very well be the root cause of your problems. Never use any registry cleaners, boosters or optimizers. They mostly do more harm than good.

Your best bet might be a Vista reinstall.

his :
Which HP laptop model & model #?
Look for it at http://support.hp.com and provide us with the product page link.

Corrupt files point to corrupt Windows or corrupt registry; or defective hard disk drive, or defective ram.

> 50% of HJT logs are clean even though malicious software is present. This could be the case with your computer.

Can you boot to a command prompt?
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial142.html
If so, go to option 2.
type: cd\
press "enter"
type: chkdsk /r
press "enter"

The results will be in control panel > admin tools > event viewer > windows logs
check applications and system for "winlogon"
copy the results & paste them in a reply.

Yes, a re-install is always one way to fix a corrupt file problem unless the corruption is caused by hardware. Purchasing a new computer would also solve your problems with this laptop. I do not recommend either option at this point in time.

HDD diags, check w/ HP firstly.

Ram diags. Run the Windows Mem diag.
See tutorial at bleepingcomputer.com, referenced above.
Run memtest86 www.memtest86.com for 8+ hrs, or until an error appears.

You can test your CPU using OCCT.

If you don't have 3rd party [ for example, Nero, Roxio / Sonic , etc] disk burning software, you can use freeware such as ISO Burner to create a bootable optical disk, for MemTest86.

Hi I did not receive this info until tonight I will try what you said Reignforest first. I did have a question cause I was going to Strip the hard drive but thought how do I know if I stripped the hard drive and reprogram the computer it is going to work? I thought how could I find out if the hard drive is bad? So any help would be appreciated. The deal is when I download new programs it does not work it gets corrupted right away, cause it freezes and it says, windows has stopped responding. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

h lashes:
1. No test is 100% accurate. There false +s [ problem reported when none exists ] and false -s [ problem not reported when problem actually exists ] in every category of technology & medicine of which I am aware.

Check HP's web site, for HDD [ hard disk drive ] diags.
OR find out the brand, model & model # of your lappy's HDD, go to that HDD manufacture's web site; download & run the HDD

run chkdsk /r from the recovery environment. If you don't have a Vista operating system DVD, boot to the recovery environment & run chkdsk /r
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...sta-Inside-Out

Answer the questions in #11, follow the suggestion in #11 & this post.

Post the results. With that information, assisting you will be more efficient.

I will wait for your reply.

edit:
providing the exact error message[s] will be very helpful.

Also, look in control panel > classic view > admin tools > event viewer > windows logs
applications & system for errors reported at the time an error message appears on the screen

Also, in control panel, look at problem reports & solutions.

You are correct. If the problem is caused by hardware, a re-format & re-install won't solve your problem.
