"Location is not Available, Desktop is not accessible, Access Denied" After Boot-up
Hello, I'm trying to help fix my friends computer. There's only one user name available, thus I'm logged in as the owner. After boot-up, it has a Windows 98 style taskbar, a black background, only the Recycling Bin icon and this message:

Location is not available
C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible
Access Denied

I cannot open the Control Panel. It just flashes the egg timer and then does nothing. The Documents, Music, Computer, etc. folders are also inaccessible, does the same thing as the control panel.

Personalize is also inaccessible.

There are no system restores available. It must've been turned off.

I also ran all the Vista recovery/system checks from the Windows Anytime Upgrade CD it came with and it found nothing/did nothing.

In safe mode, the normal desktop icons re-appear, but still no access to the Control Panel, Personalize and the documents folders.

The computer is a HP Pavilion a1748x running on Vista Home Premium.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE

Thank You for any help.
