Windows Vista will not pass the Welcome Screen
I am very aware that this is a popular discussion, I am starting a new topic because I know that this error happens but for different reasons.

I am using a Dell Studio 1535 about one year old running windows Vista, I had left it powered on all night and then this morning I was using firefox and it kept freezing and my internet was shotty- so I powered it down, I had left the USB of the mouse plugged in. I powered it back on and it started up but only got as far as the welcome screen. It loaded for about 20 minutes and I realized that it was taking along time, so I shut it down and did it again, and again and again. I am going to say I shut it off and back on maybe 6-8 times. I tried to start it in Safe Mode, the black screen loaded with a cursor of the mouse. In the four corners of the screen it said SAFE MODE and in the middle of the top it says Vista...... Service Pack 1. I have not done anything else to it in fear that I will corrupt something. I have ALOT of information on it and would prefer not to have to restore. BUT if needed I will! I am at a loss and will do whatever needed to get it working again.

Thank you.

Shutting it down while it is trying to load the desktop is a real bad idea, it may be trying to possibly fix a profile issue when it stalls at the welcome screen, shutting it down while it is doing this does not make the situation any better.

Try a system restore using the Vista DVD.
