Solved: System Restore.
Hey everyone,

I'm having trouble using System Restore to undo an installation program who I heard from a friend has severe registry conflicts if not uninstalled properly and more mumbo-jumbo and recommended I do a system restore.

I did do it, twice in fact, but I get an error message saying, "System restore encounter an unspecified error."

Should I take a stab and try and undo my previous system restores via system restore? Lol.

I'm worried something's wrong with my laptop! Please advise?

It has been my experience that the best way to remove an unwanted program is to do it thru the control panel>add/remove programs, scroll down to the program, click on remove the program there.

Thank you for your reply, vicks.

That is what I did but that isn't the true problem. The problem is that my system restore isn't working as it should.

Do you by any chance use Norton for your security programs?
My daughter uses the Norton 360 and it disables the restore because they want you to use their back up restore...

Yes, I do use Norton Internet Security! I did think it was the culprit but only disabled Antivirus, Internet and Spyware protection but still no luck. Is NIS the same as Norton 360? If so, how do I turn of Norton's system restore feature?

I am not sure how to turn it off, or if it can be. Does it have you back up regularly? I know her's does, nags her until she does it.
You might try starting in safe mode and see if you can run the system restore there.

I didn't find any backup features in Norton Internet Security. Maybe I should have been more specific when I received the error message. I get it after system restore "supposedly" completes and after I log in, I get the message. I'm not sure if using system restore in safe mode will work because I'd assume it does it in safe mode anyway? I'll try though and edit this post with my findings.

[EDIT] What do ya know? It worked. I even got the dialogue box saying it was completed successfully... So where does that leave me now? Guess I just have to remember that when doing a system restore, do it during safe mode. I'll consider this question answered I suppose.
