connection problems
have an acer aspire 1100/vista home premium/ie7; having problems with internet connection. sometimes working(like now) and everything is fine. but then i may lose internet connection for hours/days and when i try to access the net i get "explorer cannot display webpage". At the bottom of page it says a "dns error" is prob. i don't know what that is. Our ip provider sent out a tech,he put in an ethernet cable,worked for awhile. He said this is a vista problem he had seen before. We have done the windows diagnotics repair/reset ip settings/unplug & replug modem/etc... This doesn't help. Hope someone can give me an idea of what i need to do. Thanks

make and model of the router/model
how every thing is connected - cable or wireless

If wireless do you have wireless secruity on - if so turn it off in the router

can you connect with just a cable to the router , if so does it disconnect from there

what are the status of the router lights when working
when it disconnects what are the status of the lights on the router
post all back here

now
when its working do the following and repeat when it disconnects (you will have to save the settings in a notepad, so you can paste here when it reconnects again)

{ipconfig /all}
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all

-> Start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all
post back the results here

TWO Methods to do that - if you cannot access the internet with PC, then use method 2 to copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

Method ONE -------------------------------------------------------------
start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Method TWO -------------------------------------------------------------

Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

{Ping Tests}
Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

Ping google.com
Post back the results

rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Ping 209.191.93.53
post back results
