I found this file when I was checking my computer's startups. I use Revo Uninstaller>Tools>Autorun Manager. In Autorun Manager it shows the launch path as C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Startup\$McRebootA5E6DEAA56$. I was unable to find it in the startups list with Run>msconfig>startups.

In January, I did a check of the startup programs with my regular computer maintenance and it showed this file checked. I checked various sites for startups information and couldn't find this file anywhere. When I did a Google search of this file, all the info I could find had to do with spyware/virus trouble - various problems people were having with their computers but I wasn't. My computer was running fine and still is. I had no idea which program this belonged to so I unchecked it, thinking that I would wait to see if I had a problem with anything - I didn't so I left it unchecked and forgot about it.

Now, in February, I am checking my startups again (maintenance time) and was reminded to ask about it in this forum. I am not having any problems but I thot I would ask if this is a file to worry about. What does this file belong to?? I ran spyware checks and nothing showed up. Seems my computer is free of any crap!! Thankfully!

I am only asking about this file out of curiosity mostly but also just b/c the Google search showed so much about spyware/virus troubles. ????

There is no need for this thread to be answered quckly but I would like to know what it is about. Thanks very much!

Go here and click the green icon to download and save Trend Micro HijackThis 2.0.3. Close all open windows first, then install it in its default location. Run a scan with it - which will take 30 seconds or less. Save the resulting log in Notepad. Return here, then copy-and-paste the entire log here.

Cheeseball81: Thankyou! Yes, I did have McAfee Site Advisor installed and I uninstalled it! (It lies! IMHO) Anyway, I asked a computer guru I know about this file and he asked the same thing you did! He told me that if it is unchecked now, not to worry about it.

flavallee: Thanks for your input, too but I don't need to do a HJT. The file isn't spyware (see above note to Cheeseball). This is a fairly new computer and I am a very cautious PC user who runs spyware scans once a month, even tho my security system scans daily. I just got worried that maybe this file got missed in the spyware scans b/c of all the Google search results having "spyware" etc. in the wordings.

I'm glad to see that you got rid of McAfee Site Advisor.

Unless you have other McAfee-related installed in that computer that you're still using, you should download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool and then run it to get rid of any McAfee files and registry remnants.
