Solved: Windows can't open .exe files
On my laptop (Vista HP SP1), I can't open .exe files.

Every time I try, Windows pops up the dialog asking me which program I want to use to open the .exe file.

I've down a virus scan (clear) and I tried this fix:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...a-e00b77a2af7c

But I didn't have the faulty registry key anyway.

I downloaded Vista SP2 in the hope that it would fix any system errors, but I can't run the executable!

Something gave exe files an association. They should have none at all. It may have been a user error when choosing what program to use to open some file, or it could be some sort of malware.
