Solved: Vista Antispyware 2010
Just had Vista Antispyware 2010 downloaded, and it seems like you have to purchase it. I am scepticle of it.

Can anybody confirm if it exists and why I should pay for it.

Thanks

Hi Villian,

Vista Antispyware 2010 is a rogue antispyware program that reports false infections and shows numerous fake security alerts as an attempt to trick you into buying the software.
This program is installed through the use of trojans. It's a scam, designed to scare you into thinking that your computer in danger as a method to trick you into purchasing the full
version of the program. If your computer is infected with this malware, then most importantly, do not purchase it! Uninstall the rogue from your PC as soon as possible.

You should go to the Malware Removal Room for assistance.

Straight from this site:

Vista Antispyware 2010 is a deceitful security application that targets computers running Vista Operating Systems. Vista Antispyware 2010 is installed onto victims’ machines by Trojans. Vista Antispyware 2010 produces numerous pop-ups, system scanners and warnings to scare victims into purchasing it as a solution to the malware infections. VistaAntispyware 2010 was basically created to rip users off by convincing them to pay for a useless application in order to remove non-existent computer threats.

Go here to download Trend Micro HijackThis 2.0.3. Close all open windows first, then install it in its default location. Run a scan with it - which should take 30 seconds or less. Save the resulting log in Notepad. Return here, then copy-and-paste the entire log here.

Thanks guys. When I finished my post I did a quick google on the topic.

I found this link http://www.myantispyware.com/2010/01...ista-guardian/ and it worked brilliantly. All cleaned up.

If you installed and used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to run a scan and detect and remove EVERYTHING it found, install and use SUPERAntiSpyware and do the same thing. You might be surprised what else will be found. And make sure to update the definition files first before you run a scan with either of them.

Will do that Flavallee. Thanks.
Would you explain what you mean by "And make sure to update the definition files first before you run a scan with either of them"

Do you mean this part of my previous link

Step 1. Repair “running of .exe files”.

Click Start, Run. Type command and press Enter. Type notepad and press Enter.
Notepad opens. Copy all the text below into Notepad.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.exe]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\shell\open\command]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@="exefile"
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"

Save this as fix.reg to your Desktop (remember to select Save as file type: All files in Notepad.)
Double Click fix.reg and click YES for confirm.
Reboot your computer.

No, he's referring to Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware malware definitions. In MBAM, click on the Update tab and click on Check for Updates. In SAS, click on Check for Updates...

SAS found the following

Memory Items 0
Registry Items 0
Low level File Items 212. A lot of those were to do with Mesh, who I bought the computer off (one of the last decent British computer companies around)

So please inform me of the magic of SAS?

My guess is the 212 File items were tracking cookies, am I right?

That was quite painless compared with a Root Kit virus I had on my wifes machine a few months ago.
Nobody on here could help, but through googling, managed to find a brilliant solution and saved all my wifes very important data. :-)

Thanks to all for the help.
