Solved: 100% CPU usage and internal modem problems
Well, whenever I start up Windows, my CPU usage jumps to 90-100% and stays there. And also, sometimes in the middle of using a wireless connection, my internal modem disables itself. I'm running Vista on a Toshiba Satellite A305.

So, there is no problem with the internal modem, own fault. But my CPU usage is still around 100% and there is no free Physical memory. I've run several different AV programs and they have not caught any bugs, any help guys.

Please click here to download and install version 2.0.2 of the HijackThis Installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

Your problem seems quite obvious. You are running two antivirus programs, AVG and Symantec. Never run more than one. Norton could very well be the problem by its own. The ccSvcHst.exe process has been known to cause high CPU usage.

You should uninstall Symantec/Norton using the Norton Removal Tool. Run it at least twice.

Hmm.. I downloaded AVG after this started but that seemed to work, thank you. However i do have another question, how do i turn off the windows narrator. It's pretty annoying when it starts up.

Go to Control Panel -> Ease of Access -> Ease of Access Center -> Explore all Settings -> Use the computer without a display. Uncheck the box by "Turn on Narrator" and click Save.

More HERE.

Hi John,

You have to go to Accessories/Ease of Access/Ease of
Access Center,

Then, under Explore all Settings, click Use the Computer
without a Display.

There is a checkbox in there to turn off the Narrator.
