USB preconfigured folders
For my first ever post on any forum ever I'm looking for ideas on installing an Epson V300 scanner.

I've installed the driver on a Vista laptop with no problem but on this desktop after downloading the driver from Epson, restarting and then plugging the scanner in the "found new hardware " box pops up and it goes off to search preconfigured folders but doesn't find any, goes onto windows update and fails at that too.

I removed a printer driver, downloaded the new one from HP ,went through the same procedure using the same USB port and it worked fine and found all the preconfigured folders I had downloaded.

I notice there are no imaging devices in Device Manager and nothing in Control Panel Scanners and Cameras.

I am running this PC on Vista SP2.

I'd be most grateful for some help in furthering my knowledge

Try reinstalling the driver.
First uninstall 'Epson Scan'. http://files.support.epson.com/htmld...#S-01200-00800

Unplug the scanner. Reinstall the driver. The file should be:'epson13534.exe'. Doubleclick to install. Now connect the scanner.

Also, plug it directly into a Rear USB port. Not through a hub or front port.

See if that helps.

Hi Moper,
Thanks for your input, I followed your instructions precisely, the downloaded file is epson13534.exe as you said, the end result is exactly the same as my post.
Any other ideas?

In the "scanners and cameras", "add Device", see if you can locate a driver.

When installing 'epson13534.exe', right click: Run as Administrator or
Properties, choose a compatability mode(XP).

In Device Manager, is your USB is working correctly?

That's about it.

Can't add device in scanners and cameras, don't seem to have any flexibilty (the process just runs through the box's) in installing 13534.exe to choose a compaitbilty mode.
USB seems to work fine on everything I throw at it but I don't know what you mean by enhanced USB.
It's all USB 2.0

USB2, that's enhanced.

I don't have any other ideas. Epson's website doesn't give you a whole lot of information.
You could try emailing them.

Borrow another scanner and try, just to be sure it is not all scanners that won't install.

Hi Moper,

I tried with an old Canon scanner as well, same problem.
Thanks for trying.

When installing, when do you connect the USB cable? You should not connect the USB cable to the computer until after the software is installed OR when the installation software tells you. When you do connect the USB cable make sure the power is turned OFF the scanner; connect the USB cable first, then turn it on.

Hope this helps!

Maybe Microsoft can help:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/hard...evice_problems.

Maybe run it with the scanner plugged in and unplugged.

Also, found this in more than one place:
http://www.thedave.ca/geek/windows-v...tion-problems/

Do a Google search for 'infcache.1'

I think I would just rename it instead of deleting.

Hi Mollie,
Sorry it didn't, that's one of the many ways I've tried.
