Folder converted into file?
I have one file that has suddenly been encoded. It was originally a word document appromiately 30 pages long and contained basic text and tables.

I have another folder that was on my computer until today. Now when I try to open it is showing up as a file only 64 kb large. The folder originally contained a publisher document and some jpgs and gif images.

Any ideas on how to get these back?

I don't understand what you are trying to tell us. A word document (.doc) is encoded, else it would be a simple text (.txt) document.

What are the contents of this file into which the folder was converted? Is it exactly the same name as the folder or does it have an extension? Any useful information in its Properties page(s)?

Hi,
Select "Word Options." Then click the "Advanced" option.Confirm file format conversion on open. Close, and reopen the file.

Thanks

I appologize, I am not into many of the tech terms and obviously explained this badly.

The file is a word document. When I try to open it Microsoft word opens and tehn i get a box that is titled (File Conversion - title.doc) it wants me to select the encoding that makes the document readable, however I never had to do this in the past and it was originally created and worked on in word. No matter what i select the file contents come up as gibberish.

The Folder is another issue althogether. It was originally a folder containing some word adn publisher documents and a number of images. Now it doesn't show up as a folder, when i go to properties the file type says "file".

Hopefully someone has an easy solution? Please walk me step by step if you can. i am more concerned about the folder at this point, as i need the contents
